Carpenter Mountain Lookout
Carpenter Mountain was abandoned as a lookout station from about 1969 to 1993. During that period, the lookout was maintained by volunteers, one of them the noted writer and lookout preservationist, Doug Newman of Eugene. When the Forest Service reactivated the station for fire detection during the summer months, many repairs were made to the building.
A cold work day for the SMS Heritage Preservation Team in October 2007.
Since those early years of reactivation, the SMS has labored heavily at the site, including projects such as: installing replica ridge caps on the lookout roof, and; building a replica outhouse from architectural drawings.
The finished product, 2008.
